**PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PROCESS AND FORMS FOR COMPLETING A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK AND VULNERABLE SECTOR SCREENING CHANGED AS OF FEBRUARY 6, 2012**
A criminal background check is a search of the RCMP databases. A criminal background check is usually required for employment purposes for by-law licences, immigration or border crossing, not for individuals seeking a position with children or the vulnerable sector. Beginning February 6, 2012 York Regional Police will be implementing changes in the way criminal background checks are performed. The new criminal background check will now be referred to as a PCRC (Police Criminal Record Check). Along with the new form, in compliance with the RCMP policy and ministerial directives, only convictions listed in the national database for criminal records will be reported on the document. York Regional Police will no longer report, outstanding charges, judicial and probation orders or warrants for arrest. In compliance with the RCMP ministerial directive, applicants having a criminal record outside York Region jurisdiction will be required to submit their fingerprints in order to have the PCRC completed. Additional fees of $50 to print and $25 to the RCMP will be added to the produce the completed check. The PCRC can not be produced while you wait. You will receive your completed PCRC via Canada Post within 10 business days. If you wish to pick up your completed PCRC, you must indicate at the time you attend. For the applicants who decline fingerprint submissions, the PCRC will indicate that the document is incomplete and no refunds will be issued.
